Ceramic Jewelry
People have long expressed themselves through the art of pottery.
Even in this modern age, pottery is still present in our lives and despite its modern appearance, it still fills us with a sense of familiarity.
Ceramic jewelry convey its designer’s idea in a simple yet innovative & modern way.
Ceramic jewelry is primarily made of clay which consists of Raco clay & porcelain (white clay).
Once designed, each piece will go through various stages to fit the perspective of its designer.
At first, the base material is prepared and each piece is designed.
During this stage, no mold or slip casting is used, and thus, each piece of jewelry has its own unique design and is completely handmade.
Once pieces have dried up, sandpaper is used to create a smooth and polished surface.
They are then transferred to a furnace where they bake at 2200 degrees of Fahrenheit and transform into pieces that are dubbed ‘biscuits’.
In the second stage, a glaze of color is applied based on the artist’s concept.
Afterwards, pieces will undergo another baking at 1800 degrees of Fahrenheit so that the glaze will bake and change into a bright and smooth surface.
In the third stage, pieces are coated by a glaze of gold and platinum and transferred to the furnace to bake for one last time at 1400 degrees of Fahrenheit.
Lastly, push backs, French wires, chains, locks and other appendices are added and collections are ready to deliver.
It is worth mentioning that no piece of ceramic jewelry is completely similar to another as previously mentioned, no casting is used and every design is totally handmade.
Maintenance
1- Mind the fragility. Earrings and bangles are made of porcelain.
2- Golden glaze and platinum elements of earrings are sensitive to chemicals and chlorine in pool water as these components can cause a change of color.
3- You can use denim to clean the ceramic earrings and ceramic bangles.
4- Ceramic earrings are resistant to heat as they have been baked in furnace in high temperature. However, the connecting glue and pins are not resistant. Thus, too much heat will separate the base of earring.
5- Due to the fragility of ceramic earrings and bangles, its best to not use them during bed time.
